Default Gift cards from the NC store that could be tradable in game

If anet had a system where you can buy a 10 dollar gift card and it adds it to your inventory as an item that you can double click to credit your account to buy a costume character slot or w/e from in game store.

The reason for making it an item is so it can be tradable between players. In your inventory is an item that says 10 dollar value NC store when you double click it it becomes used and you have that credit to your account to use in store.

This would allow players to give gifts to each other or to sell amongst themselves. No need to take the risk of using a real money trader to get ecto you can just buy a giftcard from the NC store then sell it and Anet gets the money to thier store at no extra cost to them. I think anet could make a lot of money this way.

This wasn't my idea but I think it's a great one feel free to tell me if there is some reason it sucks

This would be contradictory to their own EULA.

This would be the equivalent of buying Online Gold... if made trade-able other people would trade it for in game currency.. and give benefit to people willing to spend real world money...which Anet wont do.

Bad idea - firstly imagine what happens when a player has used enough to max their inv slots etc - it becomes useless.
Next would be the problem of it being used to buy items - who the hell would pay for ectos and next part is who sets the price for ectos - 2 ectos for a 10 ( what ever currency ) giftcard ?
Then gold traders would easily have a fun time selling ectos for giftcards then probably selling the cards to other players for real money - anet cant do much if the systems like you said as x can state its a gift for y - how can they prove y hasnt paid real cash ???
And while my mind melts - how exactly do you get the gift card ? by code which needs to be put in .... oh wait now we get again ppl selling the codes on ebay etc and no1 knows untill they try if its real or not.
Sorry but idea may seem good but to me its too risky and way bad

Almost, but not quite.

The real danger of RMTs are that they farm like a full-time profession causing inflation, steal accounts to get more money to sell back, and spam in chat which decreases enjoyability of the game.

If NCsoft store DLC were tradeable in game, no new gold is created so there is no inflation, no accounts are stolen, and no extra spam is generated.

I'm sure that there are a few good reasons why DLC is not tradeable in-game, but saying it's equal to RMTs is not true. I know you could get codes for the minis Kunnavang, Destroyer, Asura, or Armored Saurus and unlock them on multiple accounts and sell them. That hasn't harmed the game nearly as much as RMTs could.

To clarify its an in game item so thats why people cannot scam with codes. Also I cant see why someone would try to sell it on ebay since it can easily be bought in game store there is no reason to try to sell it on ebay.

As far as advantage for players to spend real life money its all stuff from the store which they are selling for micro transactions anyway.

I think giving an option for those who use real money traders because they want ecto so bad to buy giftcards and sell them in game for ecto at least anet gets the money and and maybe some of rmt become useless and go out of business

ok i repeat - How do you get the item - same way as all anet transactions .. via code , you think the gift item will magically appear on your account ?
If that was the case everything we buy from anet store wouldnt need the code added by us.
That is what i mean by scams - you dont know untill you try the code if its legit or not - and ppl are stupid enough to get a code from elsewhere for money and to find its fake.

I see no problem with it being put in your inventory like birthday presents are If you need to enter a code in game or talk to a crafter to have the item added to your inventory then who cares? You could get it just the way you get a costume or w/e when you buy a costume from the in game store. Why would anyone buy a code when then can get the physical item in game.

Also it has a fixed value there is no reason someone would spend real life money for it since they can just get one for real life money in the store

Exactly. If they'd allow this, then NCSoft would get increased revenue, and goldsellers would lose a large part of their business, while the game improved for everyone. EVE Online did a similar thing making gametime codes tradable ingame, and it has killed almost all RMT.

I'd say we should make the codes tradable ASAP.

^ in eve there are PLEX which are equal to 1 month of game time and after a short time the value balanced itself out. it is a nice system the only problem i could find is that bec unlike in other mmos where u pay monthly in gw there are only a limited number of things in the store. and the value of the items could drop if we hit that point.
